Michelle Obama, who advocated for kids’ health and nutrition as First Lady of the United States, recently launched her latest beverage and food brand, PLEZi Nutrition. The reports in various news outlets indicate that she’s working as a co-founder and a strategic advisor for the company, which focuses on providing low-sugar, nutritious food and beverages for kids. She claims that the company functions to complement her Let’s Move!’ campaign, which she launched when she was the first lady in the United States to fight issues such as childhood obesity, reports state.

Michelle Obama wrote the first time she spoke about her campaign on the company’s website, “I’ve learned that when you’re looking to alter the rules on this issue (read health issues) it is impossible to find support from the outside. It’s time to work inside. You’ll need to figure out ways to alter the industry of food and beverages itself. This is exactly what I’m doing.”

According to reports, the company’s initial product is a beverage (called PLEZi) for kids aged between 6 to 12 years old. “We’re starting with a beverage because we know how much concern parents and pediatricians have about sugary drinks,” Michelle Obama further states on the company’s website. As per her report, the beverage has 75 percent less sugar than other drinks on the market. It is also loaded with nutrients such as magnesium, fiber, zinc, and potassium. According to reports, the drinks are expected to come in different flavors, including orange, blueberry, and apple. “A four-pack of eight-ounce (approx. 236ml) drinks will cost just under four dollars,” according to the report.
Regarding healthier food options for kids, Michelle Obama mentions that “water and milk, along with fruits and vegetables,” are the best choices for children, particularly youngsters between the ages of 1 and 5.
