Make Chocolate Like a Pro
Many people love chocolate, but it needs a lot more attention. These tips will help you handle chocolate like a professional and impress your guests with your freshly baked delights.
1. How to Bake with Chocolate
-
- Melt chocolate using a double-boiler. Pour water into a saucepan and place a heat resistant bowl on the top. Make sure that the bottom of the does not touch the water. Stir the chocolate while it melts in water heated on low heat.
- Melt the chocolate in the microwaveas an alternative. Place the chocolate in a bowl that is microwave safe, and heat it on 50% power. Stir and remove every 20-30 second. To ensure that your chocolate melts evenly, chop it finely for both methods.
- Tempering Chocolate helps stabilize the chocolate for candy making and dipping. It also gives it a smooth and glossy finish. We recommend the easier method of melting 3/4 of the chocolate and leaving 1/4 aside. Add the 1/4 of chocolate you saved, stir to combine and let it sit. After a few moments, stir carefully to ensure that no air is incorporated. Repeat this process until the chocolate has melted.
- Do not add water to your chocolate. Even a small amount can ruin its consistency. Add butter to thin out chocolate if you want it to be smooth.
- Chop chocolate finely using a serrated blade. This will improve the consistency and melt of your chocolate.
- For your recipes, use bars of chocolate and not chipsunless the recipe specifically calls for chips. The purpose of chips is to maintain their shape while bars melt and blend better into batters.
